Inspirations in Marketing

I confess.  I love football!  An unusual hobby for a deeply spiritual woman.  It’s a violent game; someone wins and someone loses.  And… I love football.  Why?  It inspires me!  It started as a child when my father took us to every home game to watch the college team play; I have very fond memories and it was exciting.

This year my team had aspirations of the National Championship and at the beginning of the season this looked very promising.  Early in the season they lost five top starters for the entire season which changed their ability to execute their strategic game plan.  New, inexperienced players had to step up and do things they weren’t “ready” or prepared to do.  I’m sure some of these players were excited and terrified at the same time.  It’s likely they didn’t say, “Coach, I’m not ready quite yet.  If I just had one more week of practice, I could fine-tune my blocking.”   Terrified, excited, believing, and doubting, they played.  These players are more prepared for the next game because they DID play.

I admit that I like to feel prepared before I put myself out there but after watching these young men do whatever was necessary for their team, I’m inspired to approach my business differently.  Instead of waiting another week to perfect this or that, imagine the opportunities and possibilities when you step out, take a chance and be willing to make mistakes or look like a fool?  You’ll still learn what works and what doesn’t, probably faster than if you’d hadn’t taken the chance.

Part of building our business involves taking risks.  What opportunities are knocking at the door of your business today?  How will your respond?  Remember, there’s no right or wrong answer; it’s all about opening to the inspiration, learning, and growing-for your business and yourself.
